3 Common Reasons For Marks On Your Clothing After A Drying Cycle

You pulled your clothing straight from the washing machine and placed them in the dryer, and you are certain that when the clothing went into the clothes dryer, they looked clean. However, when the drying cycle is over you retrieve your garments and find them covered in marks. Unfortunately, this kind of issue can and does happen, and it can cost you a fortune to replace clothing that gets damaged. If your clothes dryer is leaving marks on your clothing, there could be a few causes. Here is a look at some of those causes so you know when to call a dryer repair service for help.

You may have something inside the tub.

In some cases, the marks on your clothing will not be coming from the driver exactly; instead, they could be coming from a foreign object inside of the dryer's tub. There are several foreign objects that could leave marks on your clothing, such as:

  • A wax crayon that got inadvertently placed in the dryer
  • An eyeliner pencil you left in your pocket
  • A piece of candy you forgot to remove from your jacket

Anything that heats up enough that it could leave marks on your clothing that gets caught in the dryer's tub should be removed as soon as it is discovered. Remember, to stop the problem, you will have scrub the interior of the tub to remove any remaining grime.

You may have a bad drum support wheel.

The dryer's tub turns smoothly thanks to the help of these rubber support rollers that are inside of the unit just under the dryer tub. If the drum support wheels start to wear down, the tub in the dryer will shimmy and shake around while it is loaded with a load of wet laundry. There can be small gaps that open up at the back up the tub because of the lacking support, and clothing can get caught in these openings.

If your clothing does get caught in a small gap between the tub and the inner-working area of the dryer, your clothing may come out with dark discolorations, greasy marks, or even holes due to pulling during rotation. Unfortunately, this is not a problem you can usually handle on your own. The entire dryer will have to be taken apart so a technician can gain access to the drum support wheels and replace them so the problem stops.
