Issues With Your Stove/Oven And Troubleshooting Tips

Your oven and stove help you make those delicious meals every day. Without an oven/stove, it can make cooking difficult and mess up your routine. Some issues are fairly common and are a quick fix, but others may require the help of an appliance repair technician. If you have an older oven/stove, it may be time to upgrade to a new appliance altogether. Read on for a few common issues and troubleshooting tips.

Stove Won't Light

If you are trying to turn on your stove and the burner won't light, try to turn on a different burner. If you get one to turn on, then try the first one again. If you aren't able to get the first burner to light, try turning the burner cover — the cover may not be in proper placement. If none of the burners are lighting, you may have to use a long lighter to light the burner. Turn on the gas to the burner you are attempting to light, and then use your lighter to light the burner. Adjust the flame using the burner knob.

Oven Smells Like It's Burning

If you're cooking in the oven and it smells like something is burning, it may be due to a spill or something that may have fallen to the bottom of the oven and it's burning. If this is the case, turn off your oven and wipe it down using a clean cloth and oven cleaner. If you have a self-cleaning oven, turn the oven on to this setting (if you have the time — this can take up to an hour or more), then allow the oven to clean itself. If you still smell something burning when you are cooking, turn off the oven, pull it out from the wall, and inspect the back to be sure you don't have a problem with something burning in the back when in use. If you continue to smell this, call an appliance repair specialist for help.

No Interior Light

If the light inside has burned out, this is a quick fix. Be sure your oven is turned off and open up the oven. Twist to remove the light bulb inside, and go to your local appliance store for a replacement light bulb. Replace the bulb and check that it is working properly.

Digital Display Not Working

If your stove/oven has a digital display and it isn't working, you have an issue with power. Check that your appliance is still plugged in. If it is, check that the fuse didn't blow in your breaker box. If this wasn't the case, test the outlet to be sure it is still working properly. If it isn't the outlet, you may have a power issue on your appliance. Call a professional appliance specialist for help.

These are all minor issues that you may encounter with your stove/oven. If you have an issue that you aren't able to repair on your own, call an appliance repair professional for help.
