4 Reasons Why Your Dishwasher Isn't Cleaning Your Dishes
After dinner, you place your dishes in the dishwasher, walk away, and expect them to be clean when you return. Sometimes, this doesn't happen. Fortunately, there is often a simple reason why your dishes aren't being cleaned properly. Learn how to target the issue to help your dishwasher work more efficiently.
Machine Overloading
Whether you're trying to save time or water, the goal is to fit as many dishes inside the dishwasher as you can. If you overload the machine, you're likely being counterproductive. When you overload the dishwasher, the water and soap can't properly reach your dishes, preventing them from getting cleaned. Even if it means running two cycles or hand washing some of the dishes, don't overload the machine.
Failing Sprayer Arm
Most dishwashers have what is known as a sprayer arm, which spits out water to clean and rinse the dishes. It will be located on either the top or bottom of the machine. Particularly if the machine is on the older side, it's not uncommon for the holes on the arm to fail or get clogged, preventing the water from passing through. If you're having cleaning issues, it might be time to replace or, at the very least, clean the arm.
Using Too Much Detergent
When your dishes are especially dirty, it would seem wise to use more detergent. This isn't a good idea. Using too much detergent can make the dishes dirtier, leaving behind a film-like residue and for glassware. Lots of deter it can cause etching. If you're concerned about getting your dishes cleaned, it's best to pre-wash them before placing them inside the machine rather than overfilling the detergent compartment.
Problem With Hot Water
A major part of what gets your dishes clean is hot water, as it helps dislodge food and break down grease. For this reason, if the water isn't getting hot, your dishes might not be getting as clean. The first thing to check is the settings on your machine as some machines allow you to disable the hot water rinse. If this isn't the problem, you may need to have someone come out and ensure there isn't an issue with the hot water line that runs into the dishwasher and repair it if there is.
If your dishwasher isn't cleaning as it should, there is a likely reason why. You just have to get to the bottom of it. If you can't find the problem on your own, don't hesitate to get help from a professional like those at Ray's Appliances.
